Western Suppliers Association
MARCH 9 2005
Presidents Report: Torrey talked about how with Brian working at the mines now he was no longer able to fill the co-chairman position. Leon Spencer volunteered for the position. The Association voted and it was unanimous for him to be the new co-chairman.
Old Business:
There was no old business open for discussion
New Business:
Don discussed that we
currently had about 22 current members, with more that were still to be
confirmed. It was discussed that we need to do more to increase our
membership, and that we need to get more member involvement in our meetings.
Website:
Warren discussed the website and how we felt it could work for our benefit.
It was decided that we would implement a program for the Featured Supplier and
the New Product sections, that we would rotate the suppliers in those sections
every 30 days. Warren also talked about the number of hits we had in
February. For the Featured Supplier portion it was decided that the first
company up would be Granberry Supply, followed by Rocky Mt. Air and Lube, L&M
Radiator, and Hurberries Inc. For the New Product section it will be as
follows: Hurberries Inc., L&M Radiator, and Rocky Mt. Air and Lube.
Meeting: Brandie Notestine gave a presentation on the Southwestern Master Mechanics Association. She talked about the AMIGOS organization and how it would be beneficial to all of us to get more involved in the legislative process of our industry. The web address for the AMIGOS is www.miningamigos.com. She then turned the discussion over to John W. Henry the chairman of the Southwest Suppliers Association. He talked about the attendance of their last meeting, and how it would be beneficial to them to have a website.
Rex Hockett talked about the Rocky Mountain Master Mechanics and how he attended their December meeting in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was their 30 year anniversary. He informed us of how all of their preparation and planning is done a year in advance for their meetings, so that they can get all of the information out with plenty of notice to the members.
Andrew Kidder (chiropractor) gave a presentation about back safety and how to prevent back and neck problems. The presentation will be posted in its entirety on the website. After the presentation he opened the floor up for questions, and we had a short discussion about work safety.
John Bernal led a short discussion on how we could benefit from being more involved in the Mine Expo. We all agreed that it would behoove us to take a more active role in the advancement and growth of the Expo since it all affects us as suppliers in this area and industry.
Keith Rausch talked about how he would check into the Western Suppliers Association stickers. He believed that he could get us a better deal on them and we all agreed that we liked the format of the stickers.
We then moved the discussion into the setting of the next agenda. Brandie believed that a presentation from the D.O.T. would be an excellent presentation for all of us as vendors to hear and believed that it would be highly enlightening. We all agreed and she said that she would help in setting that up for our next meeting. Warren also brought up the point that maybe we could get a speaker from one of the mines safety divisions to discuss the new mine policies and procedures that affect us. Warren also brought up that he believed that it should be an every meeting presentation because the mines are always refining their policies to make a safer working environment. We all agreed but decided to wait for the following meeting to start those presentations, so that we would have as much time as possible to listen and have an in-depth discussion with D.O.T. Brandi also brought up how we need to look at our by-laws and update them to reflect the direction we want and how our organization is currently heading. She said that she would bring them to our next meeting. Then we discussed about the policy on dues and that we might want to go back to charging a late fee for those that wait to pay on the night of the meeting. It was decided that we would wait and look at our by-laws and the vote on the way we want to go about it.
