Meeting was called to order by Don Kottwitz (President), who thanked everyone for attending the meeting. Don opened the meeting with an update of the current membership status and how the WSA was growing. The WSA membership is at 24, with more companies looking to join. Don said the membership has doubled, over the members of last year and still shows signs of continued growth.
Wes Henderson (Vice President) reviewed the success of the Master Mechanics Logo at the Elko Mining Expo in June, and talked about the inquiries of the logo at the member’s booths. Wes then talked about the current area of advertisement the Master Mechanics is using, with an add on the Elko Daily Free Press WEB site.
Wes and Don then talked about the ideas of using the MMA logo (3 gears) on business cards, hard hat stickers and embroidering it on shirts and ball caps. Wes said he had pricing for small stickers to be placed on business cards, which looked promising for 10,000 stickers for a reasonable price. These ideas had a good reception for the members, due to the easy exposure it would give to the three groups. Wes encouraged the members to utilize the logo in their place of business to help promote their involvement in MMA.
Don then asked for any concerns or ideas, regarding improvement and growth for WSA. A question was raised by one of the members, whether the Process side of mining (Crusher, Mill Roaster, etc…) should also be involved in MMA. It was mentioned that a large number of the WSA members have a crossover business with the Surface, Underground and Process sides of the mining industry. There would definitely be a value to the many members of the WSA group, as well as a value to the Process groups at all of the mines. It was suggested that Suppliers with contacts in the Process side could promote this idea to key personnel at the mines. The meeting could be promoted by including the Process group in the Surface and Underground meetings to get a feel for what MMA could do for them, and maybe having all three groups together to discuss topics relative to everyone.
Don then introduced Bob Frayser from Newmont Twin Creeks/Lone Tree, for an update on WRMMA and the topics for their meeting the following day. Bob started with the scheduled topics for their meeting; Emissions, CAT haul truck transmissions, Barrick Team Concept, CAT 992G pin lubrication, KPI performance indicators, LED lighting - fleet presentation. Bob also indicated that he was expecting 25 to 30 attendees for the meeting the next day, with representation from Coeur-Rochester again after a period of absence.
With Bob’s knowledge and involvement with the MMA Website, he said he is still working to change the Web page to accommodate the hot-links from the supplier’s logos. He also said the Website is receiving a number of hits from groups like the Northwest Mining Association, WMEA, COSMET and groups out of Canada.
A WSA member noted that he had encountered some problems with the calendar on the Website, with difficulties linking to that area. Bob noted that he has some areas in the site that needs some attentions and would require some updating and general input.
Don announced the scheduled guest speaker (Nevada Highway Patrol) for the meeting had to cancel at the last moment just before the meeting, and that we would have to forgo that section and try to reschedule for a later meeting.
The meeting adjourned with Don and Wes thanking everyone for attending, and told everyone to be sure and stay for the Hospitality to be held down by the pool area of the hotel.
