Western Suppliers Association

Fall Conference Minutes

On Wednesday November 6th 2002 we met with the Officers of the Underground and Surface group.

The discussion kicked off on where we would like to see the group go for 2003. Many ideas were tossed out, here are a few of them.

The Underground group was very open to more presentations, the Surface group again reminded us that they are member driven and the majority of the group (Surface) was not in favor of having presentations in their meeting.

Further comments on presentations were as follows,

We all agreed to table the discussion until the Suppliers meeting on Thursday.

Thursday November 7, 2002 The Suppliers opened the meeting with comments from President Brandie Notestine. Rules of order, the state of the Association, membership drive.

The membership was advised on the estimated cost of $5000.00 for the Salt Lake Trip. The 3 groups will split the cost of the event.

Everyone was brought up to speed on the previous day's discussions. The Membership discussed the "Booth" idea. While it was well accepted, we need more space, as well as

Displays at Lunch and breaks.

We need to look into the pros and cons of using Credit Cards.

A motion to continue the Three Officer System was made and seconded.

Nominations for Officers were presented. The Motion to close nominations and vote was made. The votes were tallied and the results are in.

President: Don Kottwitz

Vice President: Wes Henderson

Secretary Treasurer: John Bernal

Please give a warm welcome to your new Officers. The New Officers will take command on January 1, 2003.

The Surface group was invited back to further discuss the 2003 plans. The Surface had 20 attendees in their meetings.

The Surface Officers advised the group again that they are a Member Driven Organization. Their Membership does not see value in having Suppliers Present to the group.

In addition, they (The Surface Group) would feel uncomfortable having Suppliers in their meetings. The Surface Group also feels that they have been able to solve all of their problems internally without Supplier participation. However, a specific item could be put to a group and the Master Mechanics would discuss it in their meetings.

The Suppliers commented that they needed us as much as we need them. The Surface group commented that they could exist without the Suppliers.

On behalf of the Officers Brandie, Rex and myself, I would like to thank all the Suppliers for their Patience and Assistance in the past two years.
