August 8, 2003 WRMMA Meeting Minutes – Elko, Nevada Stockman’s Hotel & Casino
Dues $30.00 per person $100.00 for 4 persons or more from one site.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION
Introduction of all present. Chris Kinkelaar, MitchGeyer, Kelly Alexander, Bob Frayser
We are here to share best practices. Bring 3 best practices, two in equipment maintenance and one in safety.
Cash inflow was $360.00. Outflow - April meeting - $372.72, Community projects $100.00 and Web Maintenance was $100.00, PO box dues - $48.00 with a balance of $181.66.
Participation on hospitality night is needed. The suppliers are here to help the master mechanics. There was a very good turnout on the 7th and greatly appreciated. The suppliers are very supportive of the WRMMA.

Some suppliers do not have a web site. Need feedback on the "bugs" for the Web Site. Web traffic report – Traffic is picking up, which is a good thing. 4.98 visits per day on an average in July. Gave us an overview of what was happening on the web site. Interesting facts and who is visiting the web site. There are some other countries visiting the web site.

Each mine site gave an overview of what is going on at their site. The good along with what they are struggling with and getting input from other mine sites. Great conversation took place during this time.
36 suppliers – 38 miners at hospitality night. Approximately a total of 85 attendees. Membership is growing with suppliers, 30 members, which is doubled from last year. New ideas with growing membership.
Suggestions for the Suppliers to get involved with the mine sites to get their people to show up for the Master Mechanics, since it’s the vendors that see these people.
Suggestion to the look at having master mechanic meetings at the expos and mining shows, since the maintenance people are already there and the Master Mechanics would get better exposure and would hopefully get more mechanics involved or at least have the exposure as to what we are all about.
Emissions – Cashman – Bert Hammond
Went over what the Emissions control needs to be on Diesel engines. What Caterpillar is doing to meet these standards and how it affects their customers. There are 3 tiers that were set up the EPA to meet the requirements for emissions on diesel engines. Right now there are in Tier 2 and Tier 3 will start in 2006. The tiers were set up by horsepower. If you want more information of emissions, here are some web sites you can go to.
Main thing the cost of diesel/fuel is going up dramatically, which is a major concern of the mine sites.

992G pin
Failure of A pin seals resulting in grease loss. Extended machine downtime. Low life expectance of "A pin
Cause was original pin, bushings and seals designed for 90w oil not grease.
Lack of grooves or other means and no auto lube system.
Put on auto lube system and didn’t work.
Three 1/8 inch holes were added to upper boom area. All holes were smoothed and chamfered to reduce possibility of stress risers. 1/8 to number 4 JIC adapters were installed. Note hole alignment in boom. Factory A pin bushing were removed. Updated Cat Bin bushings were installed. And have 4 distribution holes for grease. Other modifications were added.
The grease can now be added directly to the load zone between the bearing and the pins. Hopefully this will alleviate the premature failures caused by the lack of grease to the pin and bushing.
This seems to be working.
