Dozer Holding Cables

Purpose: Eliminate the use of stands when working under dozer blades.

Safety benefits: Stands were not being used 100% of the time. Stands are heavy and hard to handle, causing back strains. When doing cutting edges in pit stands may not be on stable ground.

Production benefits: Cables are stored on machine, field service mechanics don’t need to go to shop and load stands before job and return them afterwards. In shop stands are not always accessible, either in use or wrong size.

On our dozers we elected to use 1 1/8” cable, which has a 20,000# capacity in a straight pull. We use 2 cables per machine, one on each side. We also had the chokers built with the eyes turned 90 degrees from each other to make hooking up easier.
